A total of 37 secondary schools in Rivers State are set to compete in the second edition of the Education Champions’ League (ECL) quiz and debate competition, with three prestigious awards up for grabs.
The participating schools, drawn from different parts of the state, will vie for the Chief O.B Lulu Briggs Award, the Professor Claude Ake Award, and the Boma Erekosima Award, each carrying significant prizes.
At a book reading event in Port Harcourt over the weekend, ECL initiator Kingsley Wali announced that all schools reaching the quarter-final stage will receive financial compensation.
The event also featured the review of I Am Because We Are: The Story of Dora Akunyili, authored by Chidiogo Akunyili-Parr.
Professor Eme Ekekwe, speaking at the event, emphasized that the competition aims to enhance students’ reading, analytical, and critical thinking skills, ensuring they can articulate and express themselves effectively.
Ekekwe further urged schools to nominate only students capable of excelling in debate and quiz competitions to maintain a level playing field for all participants.
