The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that 5G subscriptions in Nigeria have continued to grow, reaching 2.7 million, or 1.24% of the country’s total mobile connections, as of March 2024.
The latest data shows that Nigeria had 219 million active mobile connections by March 2024, with 2.7 million of those using 5G technology. This marks an increase from December 2023, when the 5G penetration rate was just 1.04%. The growth continued in the first few months of 2024, rising to 1.11% in January and 1.18% in February.
As of March 2024, around 32.74% of mobile users were on 4G, which has been in use since 2016. Meanwhile, 9.04% of subscriptions were still on 3G, a technology introduced back in 2007.
This rise in 5G subscriptions shows that Nigerians are increasingly adopting the latest mobile technology, which promises faster speeds and better connectivity.
