The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that seven political parties are yet to submit their schedules for primary elections ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship poll. INEC revealed this during its weekly meeting held on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
According to INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, only 12 out of the 19 registered political parties have provided detailed plans for their primaries, which are set to run between March 20 and April 10, 2025.
Olumekun stressed the importance of early submission, noting that it allows INEC to prepare adequately for monitoring. He urged the remaining seven parties to submit their schedules immediately to avoid disrupting the commission’s planning process.
He further warned political parties to strictly follow the dates, venues, and methods they propose for their primaries. Sudden changes, he said, often force INEC to demobilize and remobilize its monitoring teams, wasting both time and resources.
“The Commission held its regular weekly meeting today, Thursday 6th March 2025. The Commission reviewed preparations for the forthcoming off-cycle Governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for Saturday, 8th November 2025,” Olumekun said.
With just two weeks left before the primary window opens, INEC emphasized that all parties must comply with electoral guidelines outlined in the Electoral Act 2022. The commission promised to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the election process.
