Top leaders of the Labour Party (LP), led by Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti, visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, demanding recognition of Senator Nenadi Usman as the party’s interim national chairperson.
Their visit followed a recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned the Court of Appeal’s recognition of Julius Abure as LP’s chairman. The apex court ruled that the appeal against Abure’s leadership was meritorious, dismissing his faction’s counter-appeal.
During the meeting, Otti submitted a Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment and emphasized the need for clarity and institutional alignment on the party’s leadership.
INEC’s Acting Chairman, Sam Olumekun, received the delegation and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to neutrality, transparency, and the rule of law in handling electoral matters.
