Labour Party Leader Calls for Northern Chairman

Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, has urged the party to select a northerner as its next national chairman following the removal of Julius Abure. He made this call through his representative, Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) and stakeholders meeting in Abuja on April 9, 2025.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Joseph expressed satisfaction that the party had moved past the controversy surrounding Abure. He also congratulated Senator Nenadi Usman for taking full charge as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee.

Joseph argued that with the Labour Party’s next presidential candidate expected to come from the South, the principle of fairness and balance demands that the national chairman should be from the North. According to him, this arrangement would promote justice and equity within the party.

“This is the best opportunity we have as Labour Party to right the wrong and properly reposition the party ahead of 2027. Nigerians have reposed so much confidence in us, we can’t afford to fail the country,” he stated.

Labour Party members have been divided over leadership struggles, but Joseph believes that resolving these issues will strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

With increasing political maneuvering within the LP, the party’s final decision on leadership will be crucial in shaping its future direction.
