Court Affirms Egwu as PDP South-East Vice Chairman

Mr. Chidiebere Egwu as the national vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South-East zone.

Egwu was nominated by South-East PDP stakeholders to replace Chief Ali Odefa, who was expelled from the party. Delivering judgment in suit No. FHC/AI/CS/229/2024, Justice Hilary Oshomah ruled that the decision aligned with the PDP Constitution (as amended, 2017).

The defendants in the suit included the PDP, its National Organising Secretary Hon. Umar M. Bature, Chief Odefa, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court referenced a previous judgment (FHC/AI/CS/182/2024), which upheld Odefa’s suspension and expulsion by the PDP Oguduokwor Ward Executive Committee.

It further stated that the position was vacant before Egwu’s nomination and that he is to complete Odefa’s unexpired tenure as South-East vice chairman.

The court directed the PDP and INEC to officially recognize Egwu and allow him to assume his duties in the party.
