Sir Paul Chukwuma, the former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged as the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State. Chukwuma resigned from APC shortly before its governorship primary in April 2025, which saw Prince Nicolas Ukachukwu securing the APC ticket.
Chukwuma’s emergence came after a successful primary, where he polled 366 votes out of 374 delegates from the state’s 21 local government areas. In his acceptance speech, Chukwuma reiterated his belief in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged to strengthen Anambra’s connection to the federal government through his YPP-led administration.
Meanwhile, Ozo Jeff Nweke, a real estate developer based in Awka, emerged as the governorship candidate for the Action Alliance (AA). Nweke secured 58 votes in the AA primary, defeating Amalachukwu Ekwunife and Michael Ekwunife who received 8 and 6 votes, respectively, from 72 accredited delegates. The primary was conducted via Option A-4 to ensure transparency, as announced by the party’s national secretary, Mr. James Vernimbe.
Nweke, in his acceptance speech, promised to focus on security, job creation, hunger alleviation, and the provision of essential social amenities, emphasizing the need for grassroots mobilization for the upcoming election.
