Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to secure better opportunities for his people.
In a statement by his media aide, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu said his decision was driven by the exclusion of AMAC residents from federal jobs, appointments, and interventions due to party differences. “We are losing opportunities,” he said, “because of politics.”
The AMAC boss said his move to the APC was in the best interest of his constituents, not personal ambition. “I was elected to lead AMAC residents,” he stated. “I looked at the interests of my people, and I have seen that these interests were not protected in any other party than the APC.”
Maikalangu explained that many critical needs of AMAC, such as ecological funding and federal support, were being neglected. He warned that unless they aligned with the party in power, “we will lose our wealth to grow and move forward.”
He referenced other political figures who made similar moves, including Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who joined the APC to run for governor in Anambra, and Dr. Kingsley Okoronkwo, who left Labour Party over internal crises.
Maikalangu also acknowledged encouragement from APC chieftain Gabriel Bravo Oluohu, who reportedly pushed him to defect, insisting it was the only way to truly deliver for AMAC citizens.
