Benue Governor Warns Against Unscheduled Visits Amid Security Concerns

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to visit the state without prior notification, stating that such unscheduled visits will be at their own risk.

In a statement released Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, and titled “Notice Regarding Unscheduled Visit to Benue State,” the governor emphasized that the safety and security of unannounced visitors cannot be guaranteed.

Governor Alia disclosed that he is currently involved in high-level meetings with key stakeholders on critical matters affecting the state and is “not expecting any August visitor.” The statement cautioned that any high-profile or politically motivated gathering not cleared with his office could disrupt public order.

“For anyone considering a visit to Benue State without the Governor’s knowledge, it is imperative to reconsider such plans, as the safety and security of individuals in this regard cannot be guaranteed,” the statement read.

Additionally, the governor called for mandatory clearance from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) for all visits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.

“All individuals or groups intending to visit IDPs in Benue State must first seek and obtain written permission from BSEMA,” it added.

Governor Alia urged security agencies and the general public to adhere strictly to the directive to ensure peace and stability in a state long troubled by communal clashes and displacement crises.
