Emeka Rollas, has called on Nollywood actors to embrace healthier lifestyles to prevent health breakdowns resulting from the demanding nature of their work.
Rollas made the appeal during the 2025 Annual Health Walk and Wellness Campaign held in Abuja on Saturday. The event, which kicked off at the Old Parade Ground, featured a roadshow and was attended by numerous Nollywood stars.
“The nature of our job is time-consuming, and many of our actors hardly make time to care for their health,” Rollas said. “One of the dangers of not knowing your health status is that when sickness hits, it may lead to an emergency, which often results in death.”
He explained that the AGN initiated the health walk three years ago to address the rising cases of ailing actors soliciting funds online. According to him, the campaign has already reduced such incidents as more members are enrolling in health insurance schemes.
“This year, we instructed all state chapters to organize similar walks. We want actors to be proactive—eat healthy, exercise regularly, and go for medical checkups,” he added.
Rollas said the wellness campaign includes medical screenings, mental health talks, and therapy sessions, all aimed at ensuring the overall wellbeing of AGN members.
Speaking at the event, FCT AGN Mayor, Salma Aminu, expressed satisfaction with the turnout. “Actors don’t ignore their health on purpose; their busy schedules just don’t help. This campaign reminds them to take care of themselves,” she said.
Actress Empress Njamah praised the initiative but stressed personal responsibility:
“Once you’re 18 and above, you should know that good health is key. It’s embarrassing for actors to come online asking for medical funds.”
Actor Benedict Johnson echoed similar sentiments:
“Many walk around without knowing their health status. Events like this help prevent sudden deaths by identifying hidden conditions early.”
The AGN leadership reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a culture of wellness in the Nigerian film industry, urging actors to get tested and stay insured.
