John Utaka has called on the Super Eagles to remain focused and optimistic as they continue their push for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria currently sits in fourth place in Group C with seven points, trailing behind South Africa who lead the group with 13 points. Rwanda and Benin are both ahead with eight points each after six rounds of qualifiers.
Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Utaka stressed the importance of unity and commitment among the players. “With the talent we possess, we should not be in this position. We need to unite and concentrate on realising our World Cup dream,” he said.
He added that despite the current standings, qualification is still very much possible. “In football, anything can happen. We must not give up. I firmly believe we can qualify, but it all hinges on how we approach the upcoming matches.”
Utaka’s remarks come at a critical time as pressure mounts on the team to deliver results in the remaining qualifiers. Fans have voiced concerns over the Super Eagles’ inconsistent performances and lack of urgency on the pitch.
The team will need to win crucial games ahead to climb the table and secure a spot in the global tournament. Utaka’s message is clear — belief, focus, and hard work are non-negotiable going forward.
