Senator Barau I Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, has passionately declared that President Bola Tinubu is laying a strong and lasting foundation for Nigeria’s future prosperity. He urged Nigerians to unite in support of the President’s efforts to tackle the nation’s complex challenges.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Jibrin acknowledged the difficulties faced by Nigerians, but emphasized that the administration’s nearly two years in office have marked the beginning of a crucial journey. “Yes, we are not there, and we cannot be in the promised land in less than 23 months when the numerous challenges facing our beloved country have weighed us down for decades,” he stated, highlighting the long-standing issues across various sectors.
He pointed out that the Tinubu administration inherited a nation grappling with severe challenges in power, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, water, and housing, among others. Adding to these domestic issues, the government also had to navigate a turbulent global economy, impacted by the high cost of basic goods and services due to international conflicts. “Nigeria is certainly not an exception,” he noted.
Despite these hurdles, Senator Jibrin asserted that President Tinubu is genuinely committed to addressing these challenges. He expressed optimism, stating, “Fresh air is already permeating all the country’s spheres, nooks and crannies to the admiration of lovers and good people, irrespective of differences and persuasions.”
He highlighted the administration’s achievements since taking office on May 29, 2023, particularly in the area of security. He cited significant progress in neutralizing terrorists in the North West, reducing kidnapping incidents on the Abuja-Kaduna road, and curbing the activities of unknown gunmen in the Southeast. He also commended the military’s efforts against Boko Haram in the North East.
Senator Jibrin also praised the launch of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) initiative, aimed at revolutionizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector. He noted the selection of seven states for the first phase of the program and the inclusion of Bauchi, Borno, and Gombe in the second phase.
He expressed confidence that the establishment of development commissions for various regions would drive unprecedented grassroots development. He also highlighted the progress on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway reconstruction and the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has provided relief to thousands of students and their families.
Concluding his statement, Senator Jibrin called for unwavering support for President Tinubu’s people-oriented initiatives. “The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has laid the foundation for Nigeria’s prosperity. Let’s support him. We have no other country than the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are by the grace of God on the path to prosperity,” he declared.
