The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has ordered DSP Aliyu Adejembi and his mobile unit to report to Abuja after a viral video showed them allegedly collecting cash from Chinese nationals under escort.
The controversial footage, which emerged on social media Tuesday, shows Chinese men handing out ₦5,000 notes to each Nigerian officer standing in a line. The scene sparked online outrage, with many Nigerians condemning the action and calling for sweeping reforms within the police force.
Sources confirmed that the officers were on official escort duty in Kaduna State. After completing their assignment, the Chinese reportedly offered the cash as a gesture of “appreciation.” However, questions have been raised over the manner in which the money was distributed.
“One of them should have handed it to the most senior officer to distribute discreetly, not line them up like that,” a source familiar with the situation said, expressing embarrassment over the optics.
Another police insider revealed that disciplinary action is already underway. “It’s not a movie—it’s real. They’ve been summoned to the Force headquarters for misconduct,” the officer confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a Signal dated April 15, 2025, DSP Adejembi and his men are required to appear before police authorities in Abuja on April 16 to answer charges of professional and discreditable misconduct.
