Don’t Scapegoat My Father in 2027, Governor Bala’s Son Warns PDP

Engr. Shamsudeen Bala, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite, plan strategically for 2027, and avoid turning his father, Governor Bala Mohammed, into a political scapegoat after the next presidential election.

In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Shamsudeen reminded party leaders of his father’s role in securing a historic victory for the PDP in Bauchi during the 2023 elections—breaking a 20-year trend in a state previously dominated by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Bauchi didn’t flip itself,” he wrote. “It took my father’s political tact, unwavering loyalty, and sheer strength of character to achieve this feat. He defended the soul of the party in the North-East when it mattered most.”

Shamsudeen’s comments follow the PDP Governors’ Forum’s recent decision in Ibadan to shun mergers or coalitions with other opposition parties—a move seen by some as a setback for party leader and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who reportedly favors alliances with the Labour Party and SDP.

He warned against repeating what happened in 2023 when Governor Nyesom Wike, despite delivering key results in Rivers State, was sidelined and vilified. “The time for gratitude and unity is now,” Shamsudeen said. “If the PDP waits until 2027 to acknowledge my father’s efforts, it may already be too late.”

He called on PDP stakeholders to reform, reconcile, and rally behind loyal leaders like Governor Bala, adding that the 2023 win wasn’t just political—it was a lifeline for the party’s survival in northern Nigeria.
