The House of Representatives has pledged to deepen its diplomatic, business, and parliamentary relationship with Bulgaria, signaling stronger collaboration between both nations. This came during a farewell event held for the outgoing Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yanko Yordanov, at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Chairman of the Nigeria-Bulgaria Parliamentary Group Committee, Hon. Munachim Ikechi Alozie, praised the ambassador’s commitment, noting that Yordanov had traveled across 22 Nigerian states during his four-year term. Alozie quoted him as saying, “Nigeria is not only The Giant of Africa but also as a country with many giants, in terms of culture, heritage and opportunities.”
Alozie described the event as more of a celebration than a goodbye. “We have not come to bid him farewell but to celebrate one who, by his intentional association, inclination, and interaction, has become one of us (Nigerians), who enjoys our meals especially,” he stated.
He also emphasized that the group aims to build on past experiences with Ambassador Yordanov, especially in driving trade and business relations forward. “We hope to continue exchanging more initiatives and ideas to strengthen our cooperation,” Alozie added, pointing to areas like agriculture, health, energy, education, and tourism.
Highlighting upcoming initiatives, he mentioned an Investment, Tourism, and Trade Mission scheduled for July 14–20, 2025, in Bulgaria. The goal, he said, is to explore and expand partnership opportunities. “We aspire to become a beacon… in promoting sustainable partnerships and development,” he said.
Speaking with journalists, Ambassador Yordanov affirmed the long-standing mutual relationship between the two countries. “We have excellent cooperation in IT and high-tech technologies… I look forward to further cooperation between our two nations,” he said, adding that both countries share a spirit of hospitality and growth.
