The Nigeria Optometry Association (NOA) is set to host over 2,000 eyecare practitioners at its 48th Annual National Conference and Vision Expo scheduled for July 2025 in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

During a courtesy visit by the NOA state chapter to the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba, the state government reaffirmed its support for the upcoming event. Ajagba highlighted the administration’s commitment to healthcare, citing the recent establishment of the State Eye Health Management Bureau as a key milestone.

“The choice of Abia State is not misplaced. In less than two years, we’ve seen massive transformation across sectors, especially in healthcare,” Ajagba stated.

Onyedikachi Ogbonna, Chairman of the NOA Abia State Chapter, commended the Alex Otti-led administration for prioritizing healthcare through the renovation and retrofitting of primary and secondary health facilities. He also pledged the association’s continued collaboration with the government to deliver better eyecare services.

Betty Emeka-Obasi, administrator of the State Eye Health Bureau, applauded the governor for positioning Abia as a leader in optometry development nationwide.

The Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Joy Alozie, added that the conference aims to boost public awareness about eye health and deliver lasting impact across the host communities.

As anticipation builds, the 2025 NOA conference in Umuahia promises to be a landmark event, spotlighting Abia’s rising profile in Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.
