Femi Fani-Kayode, has blamed recent violent attacks in Plateau State and other parts of northern Nigeria on what he describes as “foreign elements” bent on destabilising the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a viral social media video, Fani-Kayode alleged that the crisis goes beyond local insurgents. According to him, foreign actors are exploiting Nigeria’s porous borders to spread violence across religious and ethnic lines, targeting both Christians and Muslims.
“They come in to slaughter our people, they are slaughtering both Christians and Muslims, northerners and southerners,” he said. “They want to destabilise the country and discredit the government. It was orchestrated and it is still being orchestrated.”
Drawing from past events, Fani-Kayode linked the current unrest to the political tensions seen in 2014 before the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He accused unnamed foreign powers, including Western nations and Israel, of having an interest in Nigeria’s instability.
“This same thing happened in 2014 before Goodluck Jonathan was defeated. They are already doing that now, preparing ground for 2027,” he stated. “We know who they are; foreign elements from the West and of course, Israel and a number of others. They don’t want a stable Nigeria.”
The former minister also condemned retaliatory killings, where innocent people have been lynched based on ethnicity. “We also condemn the lynchings of innocent people, slaughtering them for no good reason. We must stop all this and rise up to this challenge,” he said.
Calling for urgent action, Fani-Kayode demanded the sealing of Nigeria’s borders to halt the alleged infiltration. “I call on the federal government now to seal our borders and stop these foreign elements from coming into our country. Let us close our borders, just like Trump is doing in America,” he urged. “Let’s eliminate every single one of them.”
Despite the strong tone of his message, Fani-Kayode expressed sympathy for the victims. “My heart goes out to all those innocent people and families that have lost their loved ones in these barbaric killings. May the Lord console them, protect them, and heal their wounds,” he said. He ended with a vow of unity: “Nigeria shall stand. Nigeria shall not fall.
