Senate President Godswill Akpabio of the APC has thrown his support behind Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno of the PDP for a second term in 2027.
The endorsement follows a similar gesture earlier in the week by Governor Eno, who backed President Bola Tinubu for re-election beyond 2027. Sources confirmed the two leaders have reached a mutual agreement to support each other’s political futures — Akpabio’s return to the Senate and Eno’s continued stay in the Hilltop Mansion.
Representing Akpabio at a town square meeting in Ikot Ekpene, his wife, Dr. Ekaette Unoma, praised the governor’s performance, describing his people-centered projects as a solid basis for his second-term support. “Akwa Ibom would be a greater place if successive administrations emulate Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership,” she said.
Governor Eno, elated by the show of solidarity, disbursed N260 million in empowerment grants to over 664 farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs across the Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and Obot Akara federal constituency.
Breakdown of the grants:
210 farmers received N105 million
255 traders got N125 million
6 SMEs received N5 million each
184 people got business equipment
9 individuals received various vehicles
He assured constituents that their submitted Needs Document would be reviewed and incorporated into the 2026 state budget. “This is only the beginning. There’s more to come,” Eno said.
Akpabio urged unity across political, religious, and ethnic lines and reaffirmed his “unwavering support” for Eno’s leadership, stating party affiliations should not stand in the way of progress.
