In light of Imo State’s disappointing performance at the Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) in Uyo, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has called on Governor Hope Uzodimma to investigate the causes behind the unsatisfactory results.
The plea, made during the April monthly meeting of Imo SWAN, comes after the Imo contingent finished 8th out of 9 teams, despite the timely allocation of over ₦50 million by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for preparations. The communiqué expressed concerns about late arrivals, inadequate kits, denied training opportunities, and poor media representation.
SWAN urged Governor Uzodimma to probe the disbursement of funds and address the issues hindering Imo’s sports performance, including improving infrastructure, athlete development, and media engagement for future competitions.
