Ibadan Age Grade Swimming Championships Kick Off with 150 Athletes

The much-anticipated Ibadan Age Grade Swimming Championships began today at the University of Ibadan, with about 150 swimmers set to compete.

Among the notable participants are 22 athletes from Obafemi Awolowo University, 35 from Jossy Swimming Club, and 15 from the host university. The two-day event, coinciding with the Easter festivities, is being spearheaded by 15-year-old Oluwatimilehin Olaiya, who expressed excitement over the growing interest and participation.

“We are ready for this to be a lot better than the first edition,” Olaiya stated on Thursday.

Supported by MTN, Rite Foods, and philanthropist GB Agboola, the event aims to nurture grassroots swimming talent and foster a love for the sport among youths. The championships will conclude on Saturday.
