Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed renowned music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as his Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach.
The announcement was made in a widely circulated video on Wednesday, in which Governor Alia praised 2Baba for his ongoing contributions to the state and expressed confidence in his ability to do even more in an official capacity.
“Because you have the capacity to do some more and help us chart a way forward,” the governor stated during the meeting. “We want to gain more from your wisdom and advice as well.”
The appointment is part of the governor’s broader strategy to involve influential public figures in driving youth engagement and social development across the state, especially through the power of entertainment.
2Baba, a native of Benue, is one of Africa’s most acclaimed musicians and a respected voice on social issues. His new advisory role is expected to include mentoring young talents, supporting grassroots initiatives, and shaping the state’s cultural policy.
The announcement comes shortly after the singer made headlines for personal reasons, having recently separated from his wife, Annie Idibia, and proposed to Edo lawmaker Hon. Natasha Osawaru.
