Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on violence against airport personnel, following a fresh incident at the terminal. Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, disclosed that on Sunday, April 20, 2025, a disturbance erupted at an airline’s check-in counter around 13:18hrs due to passenger agitation over a system error.
During attempts to resolve the issue, an Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer was physically assaulted by a male passenger. Yinka-Olawuyi noted that this regrettable assault mirrors a previous incident in December 2024, where another staff member was attacked while performing official duties.
“This regrettable incident mirrors a similar occurrence in December 2024, where another staff member was also assaulted while on duty. BASL strongly condemns these acts and emphasizes that violence against any staff member or service provider at MMA2 will not be condoned under any circumstances,” she stated.
She added that the matter was immediately escalated, and the passenger involved has been handed over to the police for further investigation and appropriate legal action. BASL assured that it will continue monitoring the situation closely to ensure justice is served.
“We are deeply concerned by the recurrence of such attacks on our personnel and will not hesitate to take decisive action to protect all individuals who work at MMA2,” Yinka-Olawuyi emphasized.
She further urged all passengers and terminal users to address grievances lawfully and respectfully, adding, “Our staff are here to assist and must be treated with dignity.
