In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowa, and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
At a packed ceremony on Monday at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the state capital, Oborevwori, Okowa, and their supporters were formally received into the APC. The event drew a massive crowd and top APC leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Speaking at the rally, Governor Oborevwori hailed the move as “historic,” saying it was driven by a desire to secure greater development opportunities for Delta State.
“This is a historic decision,” Oborevwori said. “We took this step because we believe it is in the best interest of our dear state and its people.”
The high-profile defections come just days after Oborevwori and Okowa publicly announced their departure from the PDP, signaling a major shift in Delta’s political landscape as the race to 2027 heats up.
