EFCC Arrests Felak Boss at Airport

The Managing Director and CEO of Felak Concept Group, Aisha Achimugu, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the early hours of Tuesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Her arrest took place shortly after she arrived from London around 5 a.m.

Achimugu had been declared wanted by the EFCC on March 28, 2025, over her alleged role in a money laundering case. Her return to Nigeria was voluntary, according to sources familiar with the matter.

In a statement released shortly after her arrest, her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed that Achimugu immediately began a hunger strike in protest of her detention. “She arrived voluntarily and was arrested by the EFCC. She has immediately gone on hunger strike,” Ojukwu stated.

Drawing a bold comparison, Ojukwu said, “Like Nelson Mandela of South Africa and Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, she is a prisoner of conscience. This phase will surely pass. Nigeria’s rule of law is at the precipice.”

Her arrest comes just a day after Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday, April 29, and mandated the agency to produce her in court on Wednesday, April 30. This followed an application filed by Achimugu seeking protection from arrest upon her return to Nigeria.

The EFCC’s legal team pushed back strongly against her request. They argued that her plea was speculative and that she had failed to honor previous bail terms. “Her rights have never been breached,” the EFCC counsel stated, maintaining that the commission acted within legal limits.
