The House of Representatives has taken a bold step to investigate serious corruption allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS). This resolution, adopted on Thursday, follows a motion by Hon. Patrick Umoh, who emphasized the urgent need to protect Nigeria’s reputation from damaging claims.
In his passionate address, Hon. Umoh highlighted troubling accusations stemming from a publication by Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, which alleges that the EFCC dismissed money laundering charges against Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, after he reportedly paid N15 million. Furthermore, the publication claims that despite Okuneye’s conviction for defacing the Naira, he did not serve his sentence within the NCS but was instead housed outside its facilities.
The House expressed deep concern over these allegations, which threaten the integrity of key law enforcement agencies tasked with upholding justice in Nigeria. In light of these revelations, the House has resolved to form an ad-hoc committee composed of individuals of impeccable character to investigate these claims and report back within three legislative weeks.
