The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has vowed to connect every underserved and unserved community in Nigeria to broadband internet. This effort is part of a larger goal to improve financial inclusion by providing better access to digital services across the country.
Speaking at an event in Lagos, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the NCC’s executive vice chairman, highlighted the importance of broadband infrastructure in connecting all Nigerians, especially those in rural areas, to financial services and other essential digital platforms.
“The NCC is committed to making telecom services available to all Nigerians, no matter where they live,” Danbatta said, through Freda Bruce-Bennet, head of the Commission’s Digital Economy Department. He pointed out that the NCC is working on initiatives like the Infraco licensing model to expand broadband access across Nigeria’s six regions.
These efforts are part of a bigger push to drive financial inclusion through technology, with support from partnerships with organizations like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). By providing broadband to underserved communities, the NCC aims to improve access to financial services and create more opportunities for all Nigerians.
