Nigerians Divided Over Alleged Data Depletion as NCC Dismisses Claims

Amid growing public concerns over alleged data depletion by mobile network operators, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has debunked these claims, stating that a comprehensive audit revealed no significant issues.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, addressed the controversy during a review of the Commission’s 2024 activities, noting that the audit findings suggest the perception of data depletion may be unfounded.

“We understand the public’s frustration and took the concerns seriously. However, after engaging reputable auditors to examine the billing systems of major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), the results showed no major discrepancies,” Maida explained.

While public opinion remains divided, the NCC has promised to address minor issues identified during the audit and strengthen consumer confidence in the telecom sector.
