Nigeria Ranked Among Top Countries in Digital Transformation Readiness: ITU Report

A new report from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has ranked Nigeria highly in terms of its readiness for digital transformation. Nigeria scored 71%, positioning it among the top seven African countries ready to adopt mass-market 5G networks. This puts Nigeria in the same league as global leaders like Germany, Finland, and Singapore.

The report, titled *Collaborative Regulation: Accelerating Nigeria’s Digital Transformation*, was launched in Abuja by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani. The report was a joint effort between the ITU, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The ITU’s study focuses on improving digital governance and creating policies that can support Nigeria’s digital economy. It shows that Nigeria is well on its way to becoming a global player in the digital space, with significant achievements in regulatory capacity and digital policy. Nigeria scored 91% for its regulatory capacity, 82% for market rules, and 81% for collaborative governance, indicating a strong framework for digital transformation.

Dr. Tijani expressed appreciation for the report and highlighted the government’s commitment to using these findings to guide future policies. He emphasized that Nigeria aims to strengthen its regulations to support business growth and increase local content in the digital sector.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, welcomed the report’s findings, noting that the country’s progress will help attract investment and promote broader digital inclusion.

This report serves as an important step in Nigeria’s efforts to advance in the global digital economy. You can read the full ITU report [here](https://www.itu.int/hub/publication/d-pref-them-33-2023/).
