Lagos Police Condemn Attack on MTN Office Over Deactivated Phone Lines

The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the violent actions of subscribers who attacked an MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos, on Monday. The protest was in response to the deactivation of their SIM cards, as ordered by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), due to the failure to link their National Identity Numbers (NIN) with their SIM cards.

In a viral video, frustrated subscribers were seen trying to pull down the fence of the MTN office.

Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, expressed disapproval of the behavior, stating, “This should not be the way to go.”

He added that the DPO of FESTAC and his officers acted quickly to restore order and ensure peace in the area, and they remain on the ground to maintain security.
