The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a 40-foot container loaded with 4,410 pieces of dry donkey skin destined for export, with an estimated street value of N4.2 billion.
The seizure, made by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, was part of an ongoing enforcement operation between December 25, 2024, and February 4, 2025.
Speaking to journalists at the Customs Warehouse in Ikeja, Lagos, FOU Zone A Comptroller Kola Oladeji said six suspects had been arrested in connection with the consignment.
The illegal trade in donkey skins has been a growing concern, with authorities stepping up efforts to curb smuggling and protect endangered species.
