NNPC Debunks Explosion Rumors at Warri Refinery, Confirms Routine Maintenance

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), clarifying that ongoing activities are part of routine maintenance.

According to NNPC, operations at WRPC Area 1 were deliberately scaled down on January 25, 2025, to carry out essential repairs on select equipment affecting steady production. Despite the maintenance, the refinery has continued loading an average of eight diesel trucks per day.

The Warri Refinery recently resumed operations after a decade-long shutdown and is currently running at 60% capacity, producing diesel and kerosene.
