Nigeria Targets Sports Economy Growth, Seeks Private Sector Investment

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has emphasized the need for private sector investment to transform Nigeria’s sports industry from a consumption-based model to a production-driven economy.

This was a key focus during his meeting with Chief Mike Itemuagbor, a top sports marketer and CEO of Pamodzi Sports Marketing Ltd. Discussions centered on boosting private sector participation, developing value chains, and ensuring sporting facilities are actively utilized to drive a “sports weekend economy.”

The initiative aims to create jobs, increase sports engagement, and contribute 3% to Nigeria’s GDP. Dikko reaffirmed that achieving these goals will require strong collaboration between the government and private investors.
