In the early hours of Saturday, armed robbers attacked Awolowo Hall at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, stealing valuables worth thousands of naira from students. The raid left many students traumatized as the criminals moved from room to room.
The stolen items included mobile phones, jewelry, clothing, and other personal belongings. Witnesses reported that the robbers operated for several hours, showing no fear of being caught.
During the attack, students were not only robbed but also harassed by the intruders. Some victims recounted how the robbers threatened them and demanded money in addition to their valuables.
A source within the university revealed that the students’ screams eventually alerted the campus security team, who quickly responded to the situation. However, by the time security personnel arrived, the robbers had already fled.
Many students have since expressed frustration over the security situation on campus, calling for improved surveillance and better protection. Some fear that if no action is taken, similar incidents may occur again.
The university authorities are yet to release an official statement, but students are hoping for a thorough investigation to bring the criminals to justice and prevent future attacks.
