Lookman Slams Atalanta Coach Over Criticism

Ademola Lookman has fired back at his Atalanta coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, calling his comments after their Champions League exit “deeply disrespectful.”

Lookman returned from injury as a second-half substitute in Atalanta’s Champions League play-off second leg against Club Brugge. Despite scoring just 36 seconds after coming on, he later missed a penalty as Atalanta crashed out with a 5-2 aggregate defeat.

After the match, Gasperini harshly criticized Lookman, calling him “one of the worst penalty takers I’ve ever seen.”

In response, Lookman issued a statement on Wednesday, expressing his disappointment. “Being singled out in the manner I have been not only hurts but feels deeply disrespectful,” he said.

The Nigerian international emphasized his dedication to the club, saying he has always worked hard for Atalanta and its fans.

Lookman also hinted at past challenges he has endured at the club, stating, “I have dealt with many difficult moments during my time here, most of which I have never spoken about.”
