The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a widely circulated claim that three men were caught attempting a kidnapping in Victory Estate, located in the Ago Palace area of Lagos.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin refuted the allegations on his X handle (formerly Twitter), stating that there was no attempted kidnapping in the estate. He addressed the viral video that showed three young men being beaten and accused of being kidnappers.
According to Hundeyin, Lagos Commissioner of Police Olohundare Moshood Jimoh held a fact-finding meeting with the Victory Estate Chairman, Chief Security Officer, two residents, and one of the accused men to investigate the matter.
During the meeting, all estate representatives confirmed that the three men in the viral video were not kidnappers and that no such crime had occurred. The Chairman of the Estate Association, the Chief Security Officer, and a Security Committee member all affirmed that the allegations were false.
Hundeyin emphasized that social media users should verify information before spreading false narratives. He warned against the dangers of mob justice and urged residents to report suspicions to law enforcement instead of taking matters into their own hands.
The police have assured the public that they are monitoring the situation closely and will take action against anyone found responsible for spreading misleading information or inciting violence.
