Premier League leaders Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s second-half equalizer salvaged a point.
Liverpool had the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points and started strong with Mohamed Salah opening the scoring in the 28th minute. However, Villa responded before halftime with goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins, flipping the game in their favor.
The visitors pushed for a response in the second half, with Diogo Jota hitting the crossbar before Alexander-Arnold’s deflected shot found the back of the net to level the match.
Liverpool nearly regained the lead when substitute Darwin Núñez squandered a golden opportunity, failing to convert from close range.
Villa also came close to snatching victory in stoppage time, with Donyell Malen’s shot narrowly missing the target.
Despite the draw, Liverpool remain eight points clear at the top, though they will feel they missed a chance to extend their lead further in the title race.
