The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has withdrawn from the upcoming local government elections set for Saturday, February 22.
The decision was announced in a letter dated February 17, signed by APC State Publicity Secretary Alao Kamorudeen and addressed to the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
APC cited the recent Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, which reinstated its previously sacked chairmen and councillors, as the reason for its withdrawal.
The ruling overturned a Federal High Court judgment that had earlier nullified the party’s local government leadership, leading to tensions over control of LG secretariats.
Meanwhile, the Osun State House of Assembly has criticized the APC’s takeover of local government secretariats, further deepening the political standoff in the state.
With APC’s withdrawal, the upcoming election now faces uncertainty, raising concerns about fairness and political stability in Osun.
