Court Orders Forfeiture of Emefiele’s $4.7M, Properties

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the permanent forfeiture of $4.7 million, N830 million, and several properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.

Justice Yellim Bogoro ruled on Friday that the funds and assets be handed over to the federal government, rejecting an application by the respondents to halt the forfeiture process.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that the funds were held in accounts with Titan Bank and Zenith Bank under various individuals and entities, including Omoile Anita Joy, Deep Blue Energy Service Limited, and Rosajul Global Resources Ltd.

Among the forfeited properties are a 94-unit, 11-floor building under construction in Ikoyi, an 11-floor office space in Lekki, an industrial park in Amuwo Odofin, and a warehouse in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The EFCC also listed two properties purchased from Chevron Nigeria’s Closed PFA Fund in Lekki, adding to the extensive real estate holdings linked to the ex-CBN governor.

The ruling marks another major step in the federal government’s anti-corruption efforts, with Emefiele facing increasing legal scrutiny over his tenure at the apex bank.
