Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has clarified that his ministerial nomination in 2023 was not rejected by the Senate but rather by President Bola Tinubu himself.
Speaking on Arise News Channel’s PrimeTime on Tuesday night, El-Rufai stated that Tinubu had a change of heart regarding his appointment.
“The President simply changed his mind,” El-Rufai said, dismissing speculations that the Senate was responsible for blocking his nomination.
El-Rufai was among the ministerial nominees initially forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, but his name was later dropped amid reported security concerns.
His latest statement shifts the narrative, suggesting that Tinubu personally decided against his inclusion in the federal cabinet.
The former governor did not disclose further details about the decision but emphasized that he remains focused on other endeavors outside government.
