Residents of Okpekpe Community in Etsako East, Edo State, were thrown into panic on Monday after suspected herdsmen attacked the area, killing two farmers.
The victims, identified as Philip Batemue, also known as Ebo, and Christopher Bello, were reportedly ambushed on their way to their farms early in the morning.
Local vigilantes recovered their bodies and transported them to a morgue as tension spread across the community.
The tragic incident has sparked fear among locals, who are now calling for urgent security measures to prevent further attacks.
Confirming the killings, the Onwuweko of Okpekpe, HRH Peter Osigbemeh, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, while the chairman of the local government, Hon. Benedicta Atoh, also acknowledged the tragedy.
Community leaders and security agencies are now assessing the situation, as residents demand swift action to ensure their safety.
