The Sokoto State Government has increased its free Ramadan feeding centers from 130 to 155 and extended support to 300 individual centers to ensure that no one goes without a meal during the fasting period.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced that the state has also begun distributing foodstuffs and financial aid to imams, their deputies, mu’adhins, and religious organizations to ease their Ramadan expenses.
Each imam will receive five bags of maize and ₦100,000, while their deputies will get three bags of maize and ₦50,000. Mu’adhins will also receive two bags of maize along with ₦50,000 in financial support.
Additionally, 300 senior Islamic scholars will be given ₦200,000 each, while another 100 scholars will receive ₦100,000 each.
The initiative is part of the state’s broader effort to provide relief and ensure that religious leaders and vulnerable individuals can observe Ramadan without financial hardship.
With these measures, the Sokoto government aims to support communal well-being and strengthen social welfare during the holy month.
