Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru may miss the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe after sustaining an ankle injury during Lazio’s Serie A match against Venezia.
Dele-Bashiru suffered the injury in a collision with Alessio Zerbin just before halftime, forcing him off the pitch. Lazio’s medical team confirmed he had sprained his ankle, and Rade Belahyane replaced him for the rest of the game.
Lazio manager Marco Baroni addressed concerns about his condition, stating that further assessments were needed to determine the severity of the injury.
“He felt pain after taking that shot,” Baroni told DAZN. “With matches coming up every two to three days, it will be tough to have him fit for the next fixture.”
The injury raises doubts about his availability for Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifying matches, with the team hoping for a swift recovery.
Dele-Bashiru’s absence could be a setback for the Super Eagles, who rely on his midfield creativity as they push for a strong start in the qualifiers.
