A Federal High Court in Lagos has remanded Jude Okoye Chigozie, the elder brother and former manager of music duo P-Square, in custody over allegations of money laundering.
Justice Alexander Owoeye ordered Okoye’s detention on Wednesday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned him for allegedly laundering N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
The EFCC also charged his company, Northside Music Ltd, in a seven-count indictment under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
According to the prosecution, Okoye allegedly committed the offence in 2022 by purchasing a property worth N850 million at 5 Tony Eromosele Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The court ruled that he remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services while awaiting further legal proceedings.
Okoye’s legal team is expected to apply for bail, but the case has sparked widespread reactions, given his ties to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
