The Joint Campus Council (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has opposed attempts to impose members on the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2025 NANS Convention.
In a statement issued after a stakeholders’ meeting, JCC FCT accused some influential figures within the NANS National Secretariat of trying to override due process by appointing outsiders to the LOC.
Comrade Solomon Atabor, the council’s public relations officer, insisted that only JCC FCT should handle the LOC selection, citing the body’s better understanding of Abuja’s terrain.
“Based on the tradition of NANS, the JCC of the hosting state is always given the exclusive right to constitute the LOC for the convention,” Atabor emphasized.
The council warned against external interference, stating that any imposed structure would not be recognized by the FCT student body.
With tensions rising, all eyes are on NANS leadership to address the dispute and ensure a fair and transparent convention process.
