FAAN Closes Lagos Runway for Repairs

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, to allow for essential rehabilitation work.

The closure will begin at 3:00 AM on March 3, 2025, and will last until 11:59 PM on March 4, 2025, according to a statement released by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah.

The repair work will focus on the asphalt section at the A2 Taxiway-link of the runway, a critical part of the airport’s infrastructure.

FAAN explained that the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and efficiency of flight operations at the country’s busiest airport.

Mrs. Orah assured airlines, passengers, and airport users that alternative arrangements have been made to minimize disruptions during the rehabilitation period.

The authority further emphasized its commitment to maintaining world-class standards at Nigeria’s key aviation hubs, promising regular updates on the progress of the work.
