Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Adebayo Adegbola as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa land. The announcement puts an end to months of speculation surrounding the leadership of the historic town.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the governor’s decision, saying the appointment followed a recommendation from the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo. This step, he added, was in line with the state’s legal and traditional processes.
The throne of Eleruwa had been vacant since October 22, 2024, when the Oyo State High Court dismissed the former Eleruwa, Oba Adegbola, in a legal case identified as Suit No: HER/10/23. The court’s ruling left the community without a traditional ruler for several months.
Speaking about the appointment process, Oyelade highlighted that the Laribikusi Ruling Quarters, which holds the right to present candidates for the stool, failed to submit names within the timeframe set by law. This was in violation of Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State.
“In response to the circumstances surrounding the succession, I would like to remind everyone that the Laribikusi Ruling Quarters were unable to submit candidates within the stipulated timeframe as stipulated in Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State,” Oyelade stated.
With this approval, Prince Adebayo Adegbola is expected to begin his reign immediately, stepping into a role that carries deep cultural significance for the people of Eruwa. The government urged all parties to support the new monarch for the peace and development of the community.
