Wike Lands In Italy For Talks

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arrived in Milan, Italy, on Wednesday, ahead of a scheduled meeting with the President of Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, on Thursday.

The Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed Wike’s arrival in a statement released from Milan. According to him, Wike left Abuja on Tuesday night and touched down in Milan around 4:30 am Nigerian time on Wednesday.

On arrival, Wike was welcomed by Ambassador Mustapha Mohammed, the Charge d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Italy, signaling the start of his official engagements.

The highlight of Wike’s trip is his planned meeting with Lombardy’s President, where discussions are expected to focus on partnerships in key areas such as urban development and economic collaboration. He is also expected to engage with major agribusiness investors during his visit.

Lombardy holds strategic importance as Italy’s leading economic region, with a population of about 10 million people. It ranks as the second most populous region in the European Union and also stands out for its high nominal GDP.

Wike’s visit is seen as part of efforts to attract investments and explore economic partnerships that could benefit the FCT, especially in areas like agriculture, infrastructure, and smart city development.
