Musa Returns As Chelle Names Squad

Éric Sékou Chelle, has recalled veteran forward Ahmed Musa to the national team as he unveiled a 39-man provisional squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Musa’s inclusion marks his first return to the squad since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished as runners-up. His experience is expected to add leadership to the team.

Also making the list is Genk striker Tolu Arokodare, whose strong form in the Belgian league, with 15 goals this season, earned him a place in the squad.

Chelle’s selection also features several new names, including Anthony Dennis from FC Göztepe, Papa Daniel Mustapha of Niger Tornadoes, and Slavia Prague’s rising defender Igoh Ogbu.

The squad sees further reinforcements with the return of Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and Southampton forward Paul Onuachu, both of whom have been absent in recent call-ups.

With Nigeria eager to bounce back from their slow start to the qualifiers, Chelle’s squad blends experience with fresh talent as the Super Eagles prepare for two crucial fixtures.
