Nigeria is set to host its first-ever Festival of Motorsport next month, in a groundbreaking move announced by Ishaku Bamaiyi, President and CEO of the Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN).
Bamaiyi made the announcement in Abuja during a signing ceremony on March 4, 2025, describing the festival as a major leap for grassroots motorsport development across the country.
The event will focus on youth engagement, targeting participants between the ages of 4 and 17, with the goal of nurturing future talent and expanding awareness of motorsport.
According to Bamaiyi, the festival aligns with the vision of National Sports Commission Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who has called for greater youth involvement in emerging sports like motorsport.
Since its founding in 2009, the ATCN has represented Nigeria at global motorsport bodies, including the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), with official recognition as Nigeria’s FIA Sporting Power Holder since 2018.
With the festival on the horizon, motorsport enthusiasts across Nigeria are hopeful this will mark the start of a new chapter, positioning the country as a hub for racing talent in Africa.
