Police operatives in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have killed seven suspected kidnappers and nine armed robbery suspects in the last two months. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to curb rising crime in the nation’s capital.
According to reports obtained by Pulsewireng, officers also arrested 300 suspects and recovered a large stash of weapons, ammunition, and illegal drugs between January 1 and February 28, 2025.
The Commissioner of Police for FCT Command, CP Olatunji Disu, confirmed that specialised tactical teams were deployed to raid known criminal hideouts and black spots across Abuja. Areas covered in the operations include Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo, and Maitama.
“In a decisive move against banditry and kidnapping, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command conducted clearance operations in known bandit routes and kidnappers’ hideouts,” CP Disu said.
He further explained that the operations led to the neutralisation of seven kidnappers, while several others were arrested. The intense crackdown has disrupted many criminal networks operating along these notorious areas.
CP Disu also revealed that 59 armed robbery suspects, 10 kidnappers and their informants, and 16 cultists were arrested during the two-month period. All suspects are being screened, and those found guilty will face prosecution, while innocent ones will be released.
